THE DOWNLOAD: Grapes as Hearts, Student Films, ˽̳ Walks

Doctors learning to perform fetal heart surgery need only look to the grocery store for practice materials.

Frank Ing, chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at ˽̳ Davis Children’s Hospital, uses grapes embedded in tubs of gelatin to give would-be surgeons a way to learn fetal heart intervention.

Using ultrasound, the students find the “heart” in the gelatin and practice inserting a needle. See how the procedure works in the above video.
